AMENDMENT PROPOSALS
for the enactment of Congressional Term Limits
Note: Any of these proposals could be considered viable, but I personally consider the "Six Years and Out " version the one which will most effectively deal the deadliest blow to Congressional careerism (i.e. Congress as a livelihood). The "Grandfather" version on the other hand, would be the easiest one to get thru a very reluctant Congress. (i.e. Allowing incumbents to hold on to their jobs a little longer is a 'carrot', AND is a reasonable tradeoff.) Other views are welcomed.
* SIX YEARS AND OUT : (preferred)
Members of the Senate shall serve one term of six years. Members of the House shall serve three 2 year terms (6 years).
* BASIC (12 and 6):
Members of the Senate shall serve two 6 year terms (12 years), and members of the House shall serve three 2 year terms (6 years).
* GRANDFATHER :
Excepting all current incumbents indefinitely, as long as they are successfully reelected, Members of the Senate shall serve a maximum of two 6 year terms (12 years), and members of the House shall serve three 2 year terms (6 years).
* INTERRUPTED :
Members of the Senate shall be ineligible to run for a second term until passing one term out of office. Members of the House shall be ineligible to run for a fourth term until passing two terms out of office. In both cases, a resumed tenure will be subject to the term limits enacted herein
